FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Root canal treatment is needed for decayed, cracked or broken teeth with infection or inflammation of the dental pulp. In such a situation, the infected pulp inside the root canals of a tooth needs to be removed to stop the infection from spreading, and save the tooth.

WHY AN ENDODONTIST?

An endodontist undergoes an additional three years of highly specialized training in treating root canals after BDS. Endodontists also use advanced equipment like the dental operating microscope, ultrasonics, and digital imaging. The best person to treat a root canal is a root canal specialist.

IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT PAINFUL?

Root canal treatment actually relieves pain. We use modern anesthetics and techniques to give you a pain-free root canal experience.

HOW LONG WILL MY TOOTH LAST AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

The success rate of root canal treatment is above 95%. With proper care and maintenance, endodontically treated teeth can last a lifetime.

HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS DOES A ROOT CANAL TREATMENT NEED?

The number of appointments for a particular procedure depends on a number of factors including the complexity of the case, the amount of infection, and whether it is a re-treatment or not. Most appointments are 1 to 2 hours long. Single-visit endodontic treatment can be done if all conditions are favorable.

IS IT BETTER/ CHEAPER TO EXTRACT MY TOOTH?

A natural tooth is always better than an artificial tooth. So it is better and safer to retain a natural tooth with the help of root canal treatment. Extracting a tooth and replacing it with an implant or fixed partial denture costs you more money, time, and additional procedures on adjacent teeth than a root canal.
We recommend extraction only for those teeth which cannot be saved even by the most extensive restorative procedures.

DO I NEED TO GET A CROWN AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Some teeth need to be protected with a crown after the root canal, and some don't. We will assess your tooth and let you know whether you need a crown after root canal treatment.
